Inside Trump's Plot to Send Rapists and Killers to 'Destabilize' Liberal Cities

Years before Ron DeSantis’ Martha’s Vineyard stunt, the then-president asked his team to take migrants suspected of violence and rape and bus them to blue states and metropolitan areas

Donald Trump is privately fuming over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis flying migrants from the Texas border to Martha’s Vineyard, telling confidants the potential 2024 rival stole “my idea” for weaponizing immigrants. Turns out, Trump was right — but his plans were more extreme than anything DeSantis has come up with to date.

In early 2019, three people familiar with the matter tell Rolling Stone, the then-president workshopped a plan to bus migrants suspected of violent crime from the border to liberal metropolitan areas. The plan, two of the sources say Trump explicitly told staff, was to “punish” his political rivals in Democratic controlled areas.

“I was in the Oval Office for a meeting in March, 2019 in which [Trump] got more specific than just dump[ing] them in blue states,” says former Department of Homeland Security official Miles Taylor.

“He said, ‘I want you to get the worst of the worst’ — criminals, actual ‘murderers,’ and actual ‘rapists’ — who cross the [southern] border, and round them up. He did not want to expel them, which is what you’re supposed to do in those situations,” Taylor says. “He specifically said that he wanted us to put them on buses … to, and I quote, ‘destabilize’ those sanctuary cities.”

Taylor recounts the then-president listing Los Angeles, Portland, Chicago, and New York City among the metropolitan areas Trump wanted his administration to target.

A Trump spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment on this story.

Taylor is the former administration official who wrote the famous Trump-bashing “Anonymous” op-ed in The New York Times. His account of Trump’s plan elaborates on a comment he made on CNN this week. Taylor is a persistent Trump critic, but even people still in good standing in Trumpworld recall the president proposing plans to target his political enemies with suspected violent migrants.

A former top Trump aide, who spoke on the condition of anonymity in part to preserve their standing with the former president, recalls Trump raising the proposal at a dinner circa early 2019.

“I don’t remember the [former] president mentioning ‘rapists’ and ‘murderers,’ but I do remember him saying we should load buses up with ‘MS-13,’” the source says, referencing the violent gang with roots in Los Angeles and El Salavador. Trump, the source says, wanted to take MS-13 members “crossing the border and send them to cities like San Francisco [where Nancy Pelosi lives, and also to]…New York.”

These ideas largely went nowhere, because administration lawyers and other officials could not stomach, nor legally justify, such actions.

Trump’s aides also noted at the time that bringing in violent people was the exact opposite of Trump’s stated goal of keeping “immigrant crime” out of the country. Trump launched his first presidential campaign with a speech claiming, “They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists.” He, along officials such as policy adviser Stephen Miller and former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, worked for four years to convert that xenophobia into government action.

On the plans to bus allegedly violent migrants, staff in the White House and DHS generally predicted (or hoped) that the mercurial president, with the extremely limited attention span, would forget about it and move on.

On that day in March 2019 when he first heard Trump talk about his horrifying plan to “destabilize” these American cities, Taylor says he remembers the mood in the room being one of “total exasperation” from officials who were mostly content to “let Trump cry it out.” The then-president would be “spitting, screaming, repeating himself, and you would let him go through all of that,” Taylor says.

Despite never enacting his plan to sicc “the worst” foreign and violent criminals on the people living in blue states, Trump did talking about his more general migrant bussing plans in public.

And in the post-Trump years, Republican governors took up his mantle. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has now spent more than $12 million bussing migrants from Texas to democratic enclaves like New York and Washington D.C., and DeSantis has set aside an equivalent amount within Florida’s budget to transport migrants out of the state.

The programs however, have drawn legal and ethical scrutiny, including following this month’s attempt by DeSantis to troll the residents of Martha’s Vineyard by unceremoniously dumping fifty asylum seekers on the island resulted in allegations that the migrants had been lied to about the destination of the transport they were offered, and what resources would be available to them if they accepted the flights.

The migrant transportation programs — and the more grotesque iteration of them imagined by Trump — represent one of the central pillars guiding the GOP’s attitude toward immigration. The officials portray migrants as an undesirable, destabilizing force, rather than as people seeking sanctuary or opportunity after leaving places that provided neither. Under the GOP vision of migrants as an inherent threat, those who welcome them should be punished.

"[Trump] said, 'I want you to get the worst of the worst — criminals, actual murderers, and actual rapists — who cross the [southern] border, put them on buses … to destabilize those sanctuary cities.'” -- former Department of Homeland Security official Miles Taylor.

U.S. Supreme Court approval plummets to record lows as court expansion gains majority support

SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA - JULY 16: Abortion-rights activists demonstrate outside a Planned Parenthood clinic as they safeguard the clinic from a possible protest by a far-right group on July 16, 2022 in Santa Monica, California. On July 9, a protest by far-rights groups outside the clinic forced it to shut down early. Now they've done it.

What’s a lot more popular with voters than the Supreme Court? The right to have an abortion. That’s the finding of two national surveys from the Marquette University Law School Poll released Wednesday and Thursday.

Marquette finds that the Supreme Court’s approval has plummeted in the past two years from 66% approval in September 2020 to 40% this month. That means just 40% of adults approve of the job the U.S. Supreme Court is doing. That’s across the board—all ages and gender identifications disapprove of the court by large margins.

It is brutal. But it also means that the majority of people believe the court needs to change. That includes a slight majority of 51% who support increasing the number of justices on the court.

Looking at the crosstabs is instructive: 62% of people 18-29 want to see the change, and 60% of people 30-44 support it. The 72% of Democrats who want expansion isn’t too surprising, but the 51% of independents who support it is. Court expansion gets 54% approval from people who consider themselves “moderate.”

People have begun to stop thinking about the court as a nonpartisan, unbiased, above-the-fray institution and start seeing it for what it is, leading to this interesting result.

Members of the public have come to think the Court should pay more attention to public opinion in reaching its decisions than was their view in September 2020, when 44% said the Court should consider public opinion and 55% said it should not. By contrast, in the current survey, two years later, 61% say public opinion should be considered and 39% say it should not be considered.

So much of this is about the SCOTUS decision to end the constitutional right to an abortion, a decision that is opposed by 61%, while 30% favor the ruling and 10% say they lack an opinion. Abortion rights, on the other hand,  are very popular: 68% say it should be legal in all (31%) or most (37%) cases.

It might be hard for the institutionalists in the Congress and the White House to come around to the idea that the court is fundamentally broken and the only way to restore it is to expand it. But that’s clearly not a radical conclusion for the majority of Americans, who have undergone a significant shift in attitude about the role the court should be playing. That was brought on by the Trump-packed court itself, when it decided to go all out on imposing an extremist partisan agenda on all of us.

SCOTUS has become CCOTUS - Coathanger Court of the United States.

Donald Trump claims he declassified documents 'by thinking about it,' but that's not the worst thing

For my next trick, watch me make an elephant disappear!

Telepathy is the ability to communicate using only thoughts. Telekinesis is the ability to move objects with the mind. But Donald Trump believes he has an ability even more rare and unbelievable—teledeclassification, the ability to declassify Top Secret documents without saying a word to anyone.

In a Wednesday appearance with Sean Hannity, Trump denied that there had to be a process for declassification. No forms, no verification, not even any words. And, unlike anything he’s been willing to say in a legal document, Trump maintained that he used this astounding ability on all the documents that he carted off to Mar-a-Lago.

Trump: “I did declassify.”

Hannity: “Is there a process? What was your process to declassify?”

Trump: “There doesn’t have to be a process as I understand it. You know, there’s different people say different things. But as I understand it, you’re the president of the United States, you can declassify just by saying it’s declassified, even by thinking about it.”

Jeanie had to blink. Samantha had to wiggle her nose. Trump merely has to think. He’s that magical. But if this sounds bad, what Trump said next was worse.

That Trump declared he could declassify “by thinking about it” is certainly headline-worthy, not just because it’s so ludicrously wrong, but because it’s a tacit admission by Trump that he never actually said a word about declassifying these vital documents before shoving them into boxes and hauling them off to his swamp-side office.

But here’s what Trump says immediately after declaring his declassification by thinking about it.

“Because you’re sending it, to Mar-a-Lago or wherever you’re sending it. And there can be a process, but there doesn’t have to be. You’re the president. You make that decision. So when you send it, it’s declassified. I declassified everything.”

To Mar-a-Lago … or wherever you’re sending it. Trump follows this with another, somehow worse, statement: “when you send it, it’s declassified.” Even using the term “send” is an odd expression for something that was boxed up and hauled to his own office. All of this certainly raises the question: Where else did Trump send classified documents?

The boxes at Mar-a-Lago contained a number of folders for classified documents that were found empty, and which may not align with any documents so far located. In addition, Trump had access to an almost infinite array of documents that might have gone somewhere other than Mar-a-Lago.

What did Trump take, and where did he send it? As bad as the documents already located may be, they may capture only a fraction of the damage.

Trump seems to sense that he’s wandered into an area where just maybe it would be better not to say anything more and makes a sudden diversion into just how the National Archives are a “radical, left-wing” organization. But if Trump is really looking to say something so ridiculous that it acts as an attention-grabbing cover for his “wherever you’re sending it,” it would be hard to do better than what comes next.

Trump: “There’s also a lot of speculation, because what they did, the severity of the FBI coming and raiding Mar-a-Lago, where they looking for the Hillary Clinton emails that were deleted?”

This statement is out there enough that even Hannity seems thrown. Trump then goes on to claim that the FBI was at his house looking for something related to “the Russia, Russia, Russia thing” or “the spying on my campaign.” Which then sends him bouncing down another track as he goes into the awfulness of people doing in 2016 what they’re doing in 2022—conducting warranted searches.

ALDOUS J. PENNYFARTHING: At weekend hatefest, Bannon declares Biden's plan to end cancer is actually a plan to end humans

US president's former strategist Steve Bannon arrives at the headquarters of strategic consultancy Comin & Partners in Rome on March 25, 2019, to take part in a debate on Europe. - Bannon, Italian Democratic Party (PD) politician and former Minister of Economic Development, Carlo Calenda attend a debate entitled "Sovereignism vs Europeanism" on the future of Europe and on how western democracies are transforming. (Photo by Alberto PIZZOLI / AFP) (Photo by ALBERTO PIZZOLI/AFP via Getty Images)
Steve Bannon: "No one’s going to make Soylent Green out of his purpling carcass. The Soylent Green folks surely have some quality assurance standards, right?".

The tinfoil was flowing like milk and honey at Turning Point USA’s “Defeating the Great Reset” conference over the weekend, and it offered a glimpse into just how gob-frothingly bonkers MAGA has become since ceding full control of their minds to a dude whose last linear thought involved deciding between regular and curly fries.

Former Trump administration adviser Steve Bannon, who by all indications failed to update to the Human 1.0 operating system when God released His latest “not spontaneously transforming into humid mulch” software patch, is now fretting about the coming Human 2.0-engendered dystopia. Not sure what he’s so worried about. No one’s going to make Soylent Green out of his purpling carcass. The Soylent Green folks surely have some quality assurance standards, right?

Of course, in MAGA’s well-informed opinion, Donald Trump can do no wrong and President Joe Biden can do no right, so in MAGA world, even Biden’s vow to eventually put an end to cancer takes on dark undertones:

STEVE BANNON: “This is the biggest inflection point in human history. In the lived experience of half of this room, or maybe more, we're going to get to a point where you're going to have Human 2.0. Right? They're telling you that. They're funding that. This is not science fiction, this is fact.

“They talk about they’re going to save kids, and they’re going to do this—that’s all crap. They want to be immortal. Right? And they also say there's too many people, the carrying capacity of this planet– there's too many people, right? So we gotta figure out how we're going to do here. You know, they're all over Tucker and the Great Replacement theory and about the thing. Hey, the Great Replacement theory is homo sapiens. That's what they're trying to replace.

“They’re going to have their deal and devil catch the hindmost. And people say, well hold it, I haven't heard about that. Of course you haven't heard about it. They don't want to talk about it. They're just going to do it. And they're going to call it the Cancer Moonshot. This is what we have to stop.”

You mean Joe Biden and his evil cancer-fighting cabal are trying to create a world in which people live longer, healthier lives? He’s really blowing the lid off Democrats’ fiendish plans now! Stop them before every American citizen has the health care they need when they need it!

Of course, Turning Point USA, whose mission is to “identify, educate, train, and organize students to promote the principles of freedom, free markets, and limited government” before their skulls fully harden, is all-in on Trumpism. And if you’re still wondering if there’s a limit to their depravity, they gave professional hoaxster and murdered-child defamer Alex Jones a standing ovation:

Transcript, also via Media Matters:

CHARLIE KIRK (TURNING POINT USA FOUNDER): “I was told by everybody — it's not the President Trump — but it is going to make you guys, wait till you see this, alright? In fact, this man is more hated by the media than Donald Trump, and that says something. OK? Which is, so, if you're going to talk about the great reset, then you have to have someone who's the most banned man in America, Alex Jones joins us.”

[...]

ALEX JONES: “I’m extremely honored to literally be here with the leader of the pack Charlie Kirk and the great Turning Point USA. I mean your buzz has been giant for six years and I’m telling you, everywhere, there’s victory. Everywhere people are awakening. Everywhere young people are being energized, and others, it’s Charlie Kirk and Turning Point USA, what you’re doing. So I’m very honored to be here and I salute you in the fight for Western civilization and the future of our world and the battle to defeat the great reset.”

Not that you need any more reason to disbelieve Alex Jones—whose ass is in a sling over his claims that the Sandy Hook shooting was a false-flag operation involving crisis actors—but it’s a bit ironic that he said he was “extremely honored to literally be here” when he was, in fact, attending the conference remotely, via video.

RELATED: Alex Jones’ texts reveal he spied on his wife and ex-wife, according to a new Rolling Stone report

That said, Jones was kind enough to give an overview of the “Great Reset” that he, Kirk, and TPUSA are trying to defeat—he even wrote a book about it!—but after he said “Bilderberg Group,” I was forced to spend the next several minutes trying un-swallow my tongue, so I missed the rest of the rant. Though you can find it here if you’re really interested.

Meanwhile, Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk is convinced that liberals are deliberately destroying Western civilization to pave the way for the rise of the machines:

Transcript!

KIRK: “Well, you can only reset something if you break it first, so if you have a rich, prosperous, beautiful nation that has a stable currency and has, you know, somewhat of a border, and we did under the prior administration, how can you reset it if things are pretty good? You gotta break it first. … When you educate yourself on the Great Reset, you realize, oh, they want something completely different. They want a world where man merges with machine. They do not believe in borders. They believe in the destruction of the U.S. dollar. They believe in the complete and total collapse of your relationship with God almighty. They believe the American family is an impediment to flourishing Western civilization. … If we do not work to pass down the values of Western civilization, if we do not work to pass down the values of the Constitution, of a strong America, then we’re going to be living in a country that’s totally unrecognizable, and all these people, they know that if they can get to your children and grandchildren, then the game is over. And they are getting to them.”

Wait, isn’t this a conference for college students? I know right-wing Christians like to start early, but do some of them really have grandchildren already? Seems unlikely, but they’ve shocked me plenty of times before.

Far from trying to create a big tent and broadening their reach, the MAGA world seems content to keep riling up their existing cult members with phantom dangers—while ignoring the genuine creeping fascism implicit in Donald Trump’s every statement and action.

The latest? Trump has gone full QAnon. Maybe he can build a winning coalition of QAnon members, demon sperm doctors, flat Earthers, and moon-landing conspiracy theorists. But somehow, it feels like he’s just grasping at straws now.

Guess we’ll find out more in November, huh?

Is there a scarier person on the entire planet than Steve Bannon.  Look up "pure evil" in your dictionary and this is what you'll see.

80s Hits and Nuclear Secrets: Security Concerns Plague Trump's Mar-a-Lago

Thousands of sensitive documents lay nearby as Trump was spinning the Village People in Mar-a-Lago’s not so private club

At a certain point in an average evening at Mar-a-Lago, the lights go down and the volume goes up, as the proprietor and former president of the United States turns DJ for the night.

A member of the Mar-a-Lago private club said that following a period of withdrawal after his election defeat, Donald Trump has in recent months assumed the role of social ringmaster, deciding to bring a disco vibe to the Palm Beach resort after dark.

“At about 9.30pm every night, he’s sitting at his table, whether on the patio or inside, and they bring a laptop over and he starts picking songs, and he starts being a DJ for the night, but it’s sort of funny because he picks like the same 10 songs every night,” the club member said.

The Trump playlist is of a certain era, when he was a regular clubber in New York. The signature tune is the Village People’s YMCA, alongside The Greatest Love of All by Whitney Houston, and a few Elton John numbers.

“Sometimes he dances to it,” the club member said. “He will be at his table and he’ll dance while sitting.”

Towards the end of the evening, Trump will play a hymn, How Great Thou Art, which topped the charts when Elvis Presley sang it. It was a favorite of Trump’s father, Fred, a sentimental way of drawing a Mar-a-Lago soiree to a close.

What might have otherwise seemed no more than a characteristically bizarre twist for a post-presidential career, looks more significant now that it is known that all the while the lights were low, the music was playing, guests were tipsy and the host was otherwise engaged, there were thousands of government documents, many of them highly sensitive, and at least one of them containing nuclear secrets, being kept illicitly in rooms and closets nearby. And all of this was unfolding in a venue described by former intelligence officials as a priority target for foreign spies.

“Without any question the former president, and those in his circle will be very important targets for any foreign intelligence service. They will be looking at: how do we get into that circle?” said Douglas London, a 34-year veteran of the CIA’s clandestine service, and author of The Recruiter: Spying and the Lost Art of American Intelligence.

London added: “He’s brought in really questionable people with various skeletons in their closets, financial or personal or political, who have vulnerabilities a foreign intelligence service could exploit.”

It is a scenario which in other circumstances, might make for an uproarious comedy series, featuring spies from around the world tripping over each other in the dark as they race each other to grab hold of the motherlode of state secrets, as YMCA echoes around the darkened corridors.

The setting is suitably flamboyant. When it was built in the 1920s for a cereal heiress, Marjorie Merriweather Post, the style of the 58-bedroom palace was described as Spanish-Moorish-Portuguese-Venetian. There are gargoyles that look like they were borrowed from medieval Britain. The original decor was chosen by a Viennese theatrical designer.

When Trump bought it for $10m (£8.75m) in 1985, it had 58 bedrooms, an adjoining golf course and three bomb shelters. He said at the time he thought of the purchase as a “statement” rather than somewhere he could imagine living, but the high-end Floridian lifestyle grew on him and the place became his favourite home.

In the 1990s, after a string of bankruptcies, he tried to squeeze desperately needed cash out of the property by trying to split it into plots, hold on to the main house, and sell the rest, but he was blocked by the local planning board.

The board also tried to veto his plan B, turning the estate into a private club, but he was able to outmanoeuvre his opponents on the panel by assiduously cultivating individual members and pointing out publicly and embarrassingly that almost all the other clubs in Palm Beach did not admit Jews or Black people.

There were few if any African Americans in the area who could afford the $100,000 (£87,454) initiation fee, which was doubled in 2017, but plenty of wealthy Jews, who had made their money in real estate and clothing. They became the bulk of the membership, the majority of them Democrats.

When Trump succeeded Obama as president, and Mar-a-Lago became the “winter White House”, the ambience began to change. Trump had no time for the official presidential retreat at Camp David, which he saw as too rustic. Also the Trump Organization made no money from him staying there. Mar-a-Lago was another matter.

The president saw no distinction between his personal life, his business and the public office, and Trump’s presidency became one of the club’s leading attractions. It was another label under the Trump brand. Paying guests were able to witness real-life scenes like Trump huddling with the then Japanese prime minister, Shinzo Abe, and his aides to hammer out a joint response to a North Korean missile test.

In April 2017, Trump told the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, about the missile strikes he had authorized in Syria while the leaders sat in the Mar-a-Lago dining room eating what the former president described as “the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake that you have ever seen”.

After Trump was defeated in 2020, he decamped to his Florida retreat, taking with him boxes full of secret documents and a new clientele. The crowd that hung around Trump International hotel in Washington followed him to Mar-a-Lago.

“The club used to be serious money, serious players in business. Some really big players through the years have been members,” a longtime member reflected somewhat ruefully.

“The new members of the club are a little bit Maga,” the veteran member said. “It’s very eclectic, a lot of foreigners, people that have made money in cryptocurrency, Oklahoma, fracking money. It looks more like the menagerie at the Trump Hotel in Washington.”

Asked specifically about the foreigners, this member said: “A lot of different people there that they didn’t really have before. You’ll have Chinese people. You’ll have maybe some additional Arab people.”

Even during the Trump presidency, there were significant holes in Mar-a-Lago’s security. Over the 2018 Thanksgiving holiday, a teenager, Mike Lindblom, slipped past guards and entered the club through a tunnel from the beach.

Two Chinese women were caught trespassing. One of them, Yujing Zhang, had no fewer than four mobile phones, an external hard drive, as well as five sim cards and a “signal detector” gadget for locating hidden microphones or cameras. She was deported without any clarity on what she was doing there and why she was in possession of such an array of electronics.

In the post-presidency, there are far fewer controls.

“Typically once a president becomes former president, there’s a scale-back in resources at the Secret Service, but that really is something that doesn’t lend itself to the Mar-a-Lago environment because of the obvious threats there,” said Frank Figliuzzi, a former FBI assistant director for counterintelligence.

Each year the club hires 80 to 90 foreign workers. They at least get vetted, but that is no guarantee against an insider threat, Figliuzzi said

“The fact that four years ago, the Secret Service vetted the guy who serves Trump Diet Coke 12 times a day, doesn’t mean that that guy is invulnerable to a $200,000 [£174,936] payment from a foreign intelligence agency,” he said.

The problem of the club members and their guests is far greater.

“Who are these members? Who’s vetting them?” Figliuzzi asked. “If you have the requisite money and you plunk it down, it appears you’re a member. And now here come your family members and guests and their cousins and their in-laws. And is it really possible for the Secret Service to even begin to think that they could vet the guest side of the house?”

All this helps explain why a Russian-speaking Ukrainian-born woman called Inna Yashchyshyn was able to mingle with club members and Trump himself in the spring and summer of 2021, posing as Anna de Rothschild, a Monaco-bred scion of the banking family.

Whether Yashchyshyn, and the two Chinese interlopers, were just opportunists or connected to something more sinister, remains unknown. But then the same could be said of much of the Mar-a-Lago crowd, especially the new arrivals. But perhaps the biggest question mark is hanging over the resort’s wounded and vengeful owner and DJ. No one knows what plans he had for his stolen trove of state secrets.

“Whatever he selected was because he had some intent to do something with it,” London said. “The question mark is: what were his intentions? But none of it is going to be a happy story. None of it is going to end well, in terms of the impact on national security.”

Trump is too damn stupid to be so wicked and evil.  He is playing right into the clutches of Putin and other American adversaries - even today as his reckless behavior at Mar-a-Lago continues.

ALDOUS J. PENNYFARTHING: 'It’s all of Mitch McConnell’s staffers': Pro-MAGA dating app somehow can't find women users

HOLLYWOOD, CA - APRIL 19: Handmaids attend the premiere of Hulu's "The Handmaid's Tale" Season 2 at TCL Chinese Theatre on April 19, 2018 in Hollywood, California. (Photo by Emma McIntyre/Getty Images Hulu)

A new pro-Trump dating app that’s scheduled to launch this month is not exactly grabbing women by the … um … heartstrings. Nor have the folks behind the app assembled even one binder full of women. It’s almost as if no one’s attracted to men who both idolize serial sexual assaulters and want to force women to give birth to their rapists’ babies. Who could have predicted any of this?

To be clear, Donald Trump isn’t directly affiliated with the app, which is cleverly (and trademark-infringingly) titled The Right Stuff. It would be nearly impossible to launch a Trump-sponsored dating app since he’d almost certainly declare prima nocta whenever a woman matched with a suitor on the site, but it does have the backing of MAGA billionaire Peter Thiel, former Trump body man Johnny McEntee, and ex-Mouth of Sauron Kayleigh McEnany. Kayleigh has also enlisted her sister, Ryann McEnany, who’s been tasked with convincing presumably nonlobotomized women to be e-groped 24/7 by scores of troglodytic oglers.

The Daily Beast:

[Ryann McEnany’s] basic pitch, according to Instagram messages reviewed by The Daily Beast, is a mix of flattery and exclusivity: “Hi, I’m working with John McEntee’s team on an exclusive conservative dating app called The Right Stuff that’s expected to launch this summer! We would love to get you on our list for early access to the app.”

Yeah, good luck with that, Ryann. I think most women will be concerned that downloading the app will instantly give their phones gonorrhea, so this could be a tough sell. In fact, The Daily Beast talked to two inside-the-Beltway Republican staffers who said many young conservative women “have ignored McEnany’s outreach and have instead jeeringly passed around screenshots of [Ryann’s] messages to group chats.”

Other Republican staffers in D.C.—the sort who boast about downing drinks at the Navy Yard watering hole Mission and claim their pronouns are “Yee” and “Haw” on their Instagram profiles—told The Daily Beast the app has an array of possible problems, like liberals masquerading as right-wingers and the awkward potential of matching them with conservative staffers they already know.

“It’s all of Mitch McConnell’s staffers,” a female Republican operative said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because she still works in pro-Trump politics.

Gee, you’d think if you spent eight hours a day basking in the refulgent, ovary-denuding stink rays of the undead meatloaf that is Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, you’d give up on dating. And life, for that matter. But the heart wants what it wants—and in this case, it apparently wants the person in the next cubicle who perpetually smells like airplane glue and Arby’s.

Of course, a lack of women enrollees isn’t the app’s only problem. It also appears to have infringed on the trademark of another dating app called The Right Stuff—though this one has existed for two decades and has nothing to do with MAGA.

The founder of the original Right Stuff app, Dawne Touchings, told The Daily Beast that her lawyer will be contacting these name poachers, tout de suite. “There are a lot of other really good right-wing names that they could choose,” she said. “They are very smart, I am sure they could come up with something!”

Ha, ha, ha, ha! “They are very smart.” Good one, Dawne.

Meanwhile, the app will be available only to heterosexual users—at least when it launches. Which means one of its biggest backers, Thiel, will be barred from using it. Because, you know, he’s gay. Nothing like investing heavily in a venture that regards you from the outset as a second-class citizen.

Then again, I’m a cishet male, and if this Right Stuff ad is any indication, they regard me as a third-class citizen. Or, at the very least, not a “normal guy.”

“Download The Right Stuff today and start going out with normal guys.”

“Normal” guys. You know, like them:

WASHINGTON, DC - JANUARY 06: Pro-Trump protesters gather in front of the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6, 2021 in Washington, DC. A pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol, breaking windows and clashing with police officers. Good luck, ladies. On the bright side, you should have no problem finding a “real man” on the site, if that’s what you’re into.

ALDOUS J. PENNYFARTHING: 'Lying motherf***er': In private, Lindsey Graham told the truth about Trump. In public, not so much

WASHINGTON, DC - NOVEMBER 6: (L-R) President Donald Trump shakes hands with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) during an event about judicial confirmations in the East Room of the White House on November 6, 2019 in Washington, DC. More than 150 of the president's federal judicial nominees have been confirmed by the Republican-controlled Senate. (Photo by Drew Angerer/Getty Images)
Trump tells Graham he needs to be a good boy and do as he's told.

With few notable exceptions—Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Greene, the drunk gremlin inside Louie Gohmert who controls his mind and wakes him up when he’s about to drown in shallow bowls of SpaghettiOs—congressional Republicans all know damned well that Donald Trump is a dangerous liar.

Yet for some reason, or combination of reasons—cowardice, blackmail, lust for power, free omelets—South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham has been a Trump super-sycophant. But it’s unlikely that Graham’s 2016 assessments of Trump—including “I think he's a kook; I think he's crazy; I think he's unfit for office”—ever really changed. What changed was Lindsey’s semi-gelatinous backbone, which miraculously—and almost overnight—transformed into a thin slurry of dead spinal tissue.

As if we needed more evidence that Sen. Graham is slouching toward fascism with his eyes wide open, there’s new reporting about his true feelings toward Adderall Hitler.

The Independent:

In their upcoming book The Divider: Trump in the White House 2017-2021, authors Peter Baker and Susan Glasser recall how they met with Mr Graham outside a Washington DC steakhouse less than 48 hours after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced an impeachment inquiry into whether Mr Trump had extorted the president of Ukraine in a now-infamous July 2019 phone call. The Independent obtained a copy ahead of its 20 September publication date.

Standing on the sidewalk on 19th Street in Northwest Washington, Mr Graham bragged about his access to Mr Trump and told the husband-and-wife author duo about Mr Trump’s boasts regarding his closeness with evangelical pastors who’d met with him the day before. He said Mr Trump had told him: “Those f***ing Christians love me.”

“Those fucking Christians love me” is one of the Trumpiest quotes I’ve ever read, honestly. I’m sure he uttered that without the barest whiff of irony.

Of course, Graham, who voted against convicting Trump in our fugazi fΓΌhrer’s first impeachment trial, nevertheless admitted to the authors that he knew who Trump really was:

“He’s a lying motherf***er,” Mr Graham said, adding the caveat that Mr Trump was also “a lot of fun to hang out with.”

Well, if he’s fun to hang out with, I guess that makes everything he’s done—from blackmailing foreign heads of state to inciting an insurrection to stashing highly classified government documents in random TrapperKeepers in his basement—totally excusable. “Gang, meet Vladimir. He’s committing mass genocide as we speak, but check it out, he brought Pocky!”

But Graham didn’t lean on delicious Japanese cookie sticks to justify his defense of Trump. What he actually used as justification for his loyalty is far worse: MAGA devotion to the GOP leader. “[Trump] could kill 50 people on our side and it wouldn’t matter,” he said.

I used to think that if this nation were ever faced with a credible fascistic threat, both major parties—and the mainstream media—would move heaven and Earth to excise the cancer. Instead, they’re leveraging this clear and present danger to Western democracy in order to marginally increase their political influence and sell more books.

Might have been nice of Baker and Glasser to expose this bit of Graham duplicity years ago, before he helped normalize Goofball Satan and his ongoing quest to turn America into a fascist Cracker Barrel. But hey, if this country is going to irrevocably transform itself into a dystopian hellscape anyway, might as well make a few bucks off it and save it for the book, right?

“He’s a lying motherf***er,” Graham said of The Donald, adding the caveat that Mr Trump was also “a lot of fun to hang out with.”
